SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Lead based paint poisoning is the number one environmental illness of children.
It is caused primarily by lead-based paint in older homes.
The biggest threat comes from lead paint chips in homes built before 1978.
Illinois Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said there is no safe level of lead once it gets into the bloodstream.
