PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s first COVID-19 testing site opened this week at Heartland Health Services Center at 2321 N. Wisconsin.
The City’s second testing site opens Saturday at the Peoria City/County Health Department. And, that means Peoria’s testing capacity will double to 300 tests a day.
Peoria County Board Chairman Andrew Rand told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, the process of getting tested for the coronavirus takes about 20 to 30 minutes once you get in line. The test itself takes less than 10 minutes to complete with the assistance of a nurse on site.
“Some youngsters will hold up a big placard that says please call a certain number, keep your mask on, keep your windows up. When you call that designated number, we’re actually pre registering you,” Rand said.
A third testing site opens on Monday, April 27, at John Gwynn Park. At that time, 450 tests for COVID-19 will be able to be administered daily in Peoria.
“That supply is coming to us from Deputy Gov. Sol Flores. And, our understanding is that it won’t stop until we stop,” Rand said.
