PEORIA,Ill. — Peoria’s Children’s Home has received a huge grant.
Impact Central Illinois, a women’s giving organization headed up by co-founder Laurie Weaver, surprised the Children’s Home Association of Illinois Tuesday with a $130,000 check.
Each year, Impact Central Illinois chooses a single non-profit for a collection grant that’s funded by a $1,000 donation from each of its members.
Children’s Home CEO Matt George told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, the agency was honored to be selected for the final three, and thrilled to win the grant.
“It’s our job to take care of these kids in our state, our country and our community. So, we’re pretty excited to be working with Impact Central Illinois,” said George.
The grant will be used for specialized beds needed at the Youth Farm for children with mental health issues.
The beds are expensive. George said with budget limitations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there couldn’t be a better time for unexpected funds.
“Oh man, I tell you what. Laurie and Shelly Weaver and other 130 women that contributed to this. The power of collective giving. We couldn’t be more blessed at this time,” George said.
About 1,700 children a month are helped in some way by the Children’s Home Association of Illinois.
