WASHINGTON, Ill. — A Washington man was taken Monday into police custody for murder.
Washington Police officers were called Monday just after 12:30 P.M. to an apartment complex in the 600 block of E. Holland for a wellness check on a male resident.
A neighbor called police after finding the door to the victim’s apartment open.
“Officers found the door wide open, announced themselves and entered the apartment. Upon entering the bedroom, officers found a white male lying on the floor and it appeared he was deceased,” said Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy.
McCoy said the cause of death was an apparent stabbing.
In talking with several people near the scene, a person of interest was identified.
Police located the person of interest two miles from the scene.
“Police approached the subject who was covered in a red substance that appeared to be consistent with that of blood. The subject consented to being escorted to the Washington Police Department to be interviewed,” McCoy said.
The suspect, 33-year-old Jordan J. Hyde, is the victim’s roommate.
Hyde was preliminarily charged with first degree murder. He’s expected to make a court appearance Wednesday.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family following an autopsy.
