PEORIA, Ill. — When the legendary band Chicago plays the Peoria Civic Center Theater on Saturday, July 24, it will have been 505 days since the last show was held at the Civic Center, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re going to have a big weekend, and then we’re going to have a little pause. Then we’ve got Foreigner in mid-August, then another little pause, but, once we get to September, we’re back at it,” said Peoria Civic Center General Manager Rik Edgar.
Edgar is asking patrons for a little patience as they get back into the swing of things.
“We’re excited to see you. But, you know, we haven’t made a hot dog in 505 days, we haven’t poured a beer, so we’re probably not going to be as efficient as we were beforehand,” Edgar said.
Edgar told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, The Basketball Tournament, featuring teams from all over the Midwest, and one made up of former Bradley Braves players, also gets underway Saturday, bringing fans back to Carver Arena for the first time in over a year and a half.
The last concert at the Civic Center before the pandemic shutdown was Get The Led Out, and the last sporting event was a Peoria Rivermen hockey game.
