PEORIA, Ill. — Illinois State Representative Ryan Spain and Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell hosted a free-drive through prescription drug drop-off event Saturday that collected over 1,000 pounds of unused medications to be safely incinerated.
The event took place in the Schnuck’s parking lot off Knoxville Ave. In total, over 150 vehicles drove through to drop off unused medications, ointments, patches, pet medications, and vitamins.
“These are really potent, important substances and we have all accumulated a lot of them around our homes,” said Spain. “This is one way we can offer a good service to our community so they can be disposed of responsibly.
“I want to thank Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell and PCSO Captain Chris Watkins for their willingness to host and help out with this event to help keep prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands in our community.”
A free Illinois-made American flag was gifted to the first ten participants.
The event allowed attendees to stay in their vehicles when getting rid of unused medications.
