PEORIA, Ill. — In response to Peoria’s recent shootings, homicides and violence at Peoria High School, Police Chief Eric Echevarria is asking for some important information from the community.
Echevarria told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, that on Thursday, the city’s violence isn’t a police problem, or a school problem, it’s a community problem.
“I think often times, people will see something and say, ‘Ah, well that didn’t mean anything to me.’ But, go with your instincts…call, that’s what the police are there for,” Echevarria said.
Chief Echevarria called a news conference on the steps of the Peoria Police Department on Tuesday, following the shooting death of 19-year-old Martez Robertson Monday night in the 800 block of NE Jefferson, several shooting incidents that followed, and the fights at and near Peoria High School Friday, September 17.
“People know who’s involved in this violence, people know where these guns are coming from, people know where they’re getting ammunition, people know who is fighting…and we need this information ahead of time, because we want to save some lives,” Echevarria said.
Peoria Police will be out in Peoria’s neighborhoods Thursday afternoon asking residents about what they may know about the recent violence.
Echevarria called the neighborhood tours a “Walk and Talk”.
