CHICAGO, Ill. – Peoria Public Schools will receive some money thanks to what Governor JB Pritzker calls an investment in workforce training for job seekers and at-risk youth.
The Governor Thursday announced $4.4 million that will expand a “youth career pathways” program going to 20 organizations statewide serving a specific group of youth.
“Young people who might be at risk of dropping out or are at risk of experiencing violence, or who otherwise would meaningfully benefit from training programs that open new doors,” said Pritzker.
Pritzker says Peoria is one of the areas where the money is most needed. PPS will receive more than $202,000.
Also announced was a $40 million workforce recovery grant program that Pritzker says will help various job sectors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
That money is from the American Rescue Plan Act.
“These are the key components of our recovery from the pandemic, and our commitment to build a better Illinois for everyone,” said Pritzker.
