PEKIN, Ill. — Pekin Hospital is undergoing a more than $1.8 million facelift thanks to the Pekin Memorial Foundation.
In August, the Foundation’s board approved funding for exterior repairs and improvements.
The work going on now at Pekin Hospital is the first phase of a multi-phased commitment UnityPoint Health is making to Pekin.
Mike Unes, Vice President of the UnityPoint Health – Central Illinois Foundation, said initial work includes maintenance to some of the hospital’s stone facade, which will continue into 2022.
Crews will also be upgrading the outside of the hospital’s North Tower.
“We see ourselves having a big role in Pekin’s future, and this project is just another example of our continued commitment to the City of Pekin,” Unes said.
Unes said the work being done at the hospital fits in with plans for future improvements along Court Street in particular.
“The addition at Pekin Insurance just down the road looks amazing. And, we know that the state has set aside money for improvements to Court Street, right there in front of the hospital,” Unes said.
