PEORIA, Ill — There is a new candidate filing to run for Peoria County Sheriff now that current Sheriff Brian Asbell is on his way out.
The first candidate to file is Blaine Duhs, a long-time deputy with Peoria County.
According to our news partner 25 news, Duhs has been with the sheriff’s office for 19 years serving in a variety of roles, starting with patrol back in 2003.
Duhs says, if he’s elected, he’ll focus on professionalism in uniform, combat training for deputies, and mental health resources within the jail, among other things.
Sheriff Asbell announced last fall he would not seek another term.
He did not say particularly why, only citing unspecified grievances against decisions made by county leadership.
