PEORIA, Ill. — You can be a partner in hope.
The 30th Annual Country Cares Radiothon for St. Jude started Thursday on Midwest Communications station 104.9 “The Wolf” in Peoria.
Station Brand Manager Dr. Chris Michaels told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, the goal of the two-day radiothon is to raise money to help cure childhood cancers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Over the years, the outcomes have gotten better and better.
“It started out about 20%, for overall childhood cancers, now it’s over 80%. The most common childhood cancer, ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia), was 4% in 1962, now it’s 94% (cured),” Michaels said.
This Friday, the second day of the Country Cares Radiothon, marks the 60th anniversary of actor Danny Thomas opening St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
