GALESBURG, Ill. – Peoria-based OSF HealthCare is, more or less, buying one of its long-time competitors in the area.
OSF said Monday it’s signed a letter of intent to purchase the real estate, medical equipment, and other assets of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Cottage closed its doors in January, after receiving notice of compliance violations that would cause funding from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to be ceased.
It had been through bankruptcy in recent years, and most recently had been owned by a Michigan-based family.
“OSF recognizes that change is never easy but anticipates this will best serve the health care needs for Galesburg and surrounding areas going forward,” OSF HealthCare said, in a news release.
OSF says it will not offer any inpatient services at the Cottage location in Galesburg, saying its own Saint Mary Medical Center has the capacity to provide that care.
