PEORIA, Ill. – After years of work, and delays in implementation due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, CityLink is making route and schedule changes starting this Sunday.
The highlights: more frequent service middays and at 5:00 p.m., elimination of duplicated routes, and more Sunday service, especially in East Peoria — all things General Manager Doug Roelfs says have been slow to come.
“We did a comprehensive operational analysis, and we haven’t changed routes in, probably, 20, 30 years,” said Roelfs. “They’re still running routes [from] when Caterpillar was at their heyday, trying to accommodate them.”
Roelfs says that analysis was coupled with public input sessions.
“It’ll put more service on the street,” said Roelfs. “Basically, we’re aligning some routes and getting rid some duplication of service, some long layovers, and just consolidating some routes so we can put some more buses out ther more frequent.”
CityLink says this Sunday, March 6, through March 12, fares will be free in celebration of the route changes. CLICK HERE to find a revised route map, and CLICK HERE to find a revised route guide (both PDF documents).
