PEKIN, Ill. – The “Marigold Capital of the World” will be marking an important anniversary later this year.
The Pekin Chamber of Commerce says the annual Pekin Marigold Festival marks its 50th anniversary this year, with the festival scheduled for September eighth through the 11th.
The festival started as a way to honor native son, Senator Everett Dirksen, and his love of the flower.
This year’s theme is being announced as “Back in Time,” and organizers say while they’re not going to give away all their secrets, the celebration will be done in a big way.
“The theme is centered around the essence of traveling back in time and taking a trip down memory lane,” said Brandon Burling, 2022 Festival Chairman, in a news release. “With this being the 50th Festival, we want Pekin residents and general Festival goers to recollect their favorite Marigold Memories that embody what this Festival is all about. Sharing moments that they will never forget, while also creating new ones for years to come.”
Registrations and more information can be found on the Marigold Festival’s Facebook page and website.
