CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Public Health is warning of what they call a “slow but steady increase” in COVID-19 cases.
The state says a little more than 33,000 cases were added in the last week, with 59 more Illinoisans losing their lives.
What’s concerning to officials is a new Centers for Disease Control map which shows 94 of the state’s 102 counties with medium or high levels of community spread of the virus.
In the Tri-Counties, Peoria and Tazewell Counties remain at high, while Woodford County is at low.
Acting state health director Doctor Amaal Tokars again urges the public to consider wearing masks and making sure vaccine records are up to date.
“This is especially important for people who are vulnerable to serious medical outcomes,” said Tokars, in a news release. “It is recommended that you wear your mask in indoor public places and avoid indoor crowded spaces at this time. If needed, contact a healthcare provider promptly to discuss what treatment is right for you.”
