PEORIA, Ill – A Peoria Public School Board member is recommending some changes to the district dress code.
This, after school board president Martha Ross previously denounced the survey by Anni Reinking, conducted because Reinking believes the code unfairly targets girls.
Reinking has already amended some of her changes, though.
“We’re going to say you can wear hooded sweatshirts, but you can’t wear them on your head,” said Reinking. “We will take out spaghetti straps and halter tops, but we will leave in tank tops.”
Reinking says she will now give the results — which also indicated two thirds agreed or strongly agreed changes needed to be made — to the board’s Policy Committee.
Ross previously said the survey, though, wasn’t officially sanctioned by the district. She said Monday night says the proposal is more of a starting point.
“We will be adding that…it’s already been sent to the Policy Committee,” said Ross, “this information, along with the information that we got from teachers and administrators and other entities that did not get a chance to participate, will be passed on to the Policy Committee.”
