PEORIA, Ill. — It’s a hard, but important job.
The Children’s Home Association of Illinois is in need of new foster parents to take in kids that have nowhere else to go.
The Home’s Interim President & CEO Stephanie Alkhafaji says there’s a process to becoming a foster parent, that will help determine who is a good fit.
“We might get a call at 3 in the morning that says we’ve got a kid, we need placement, and we need placement right now. In which case, we’d call someone and say, you’re time is now,” Alkhafaji says.
Alkhafaji tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, people interested in becoming foster parents sit down with the Home’s staff ahead of being placed, to see if fostering can work for them.
There’s an extensive process prior to becoming a foster parent for the Children’s Home.
“Kind of interim planning before you even qualify to have a placement. There’s inspection, training, kind of checking, making sure everythings’s in place before you’re put on the list to be viable for a placement,” Alkhafaji says.
Something you may not know, Alkhafaji says, is that they’re a foster care program, as well as a residential facility, and a number of other things that happen under the Children’s Home umbrella.
“And, we will ever be in need of additional resources, so if you can’t be a foster parent, you can help by giving financially,” Alkhafaji says.
