WASHINGTON, D.C. – A central Illinois man is admitting to the actions he committed during the January 6th breach of the U.S. Capitol.
The Justice Department says Shane Jason Woods, 44, of Auburn, near Springfield, pleaded guilty Friday in a D.C. federal courtroom to assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers, along with a federal assault charge.
Prosecutors say Woods, as a Capitol Police officer was pursuing someone who pepper sprayed her, lowered his shoulder, rammed in to her, and caused her to fall into a barricade.
Woods, later in the day, helped to destroy equipment in a media staging area, and shoulder-tackled a TV camera man who was fleeing and trying to protect his equipment.
Woods was arrested in June of last year in Springfield, and is scheduled to be sentenced in January. He could face a total of up to nine years in prison.
