EAST PEORIA, Ill. — East Peoria is getting a new fire station.
A special use permit, approved by City Council on Tuesday, paves the way for the fire station to be built on land owned by Illinois Central College, which has offered a 50-year lease to the city.
A majority of funding for the new station comes from grants.
“I think it’s worth noting (State) Senator Dave Koehler secured $1 million in funding for this station, and former Representative Mike Unes secured $900,000,” East Peoria Mayor John Kahl said.
Both Dave Koehler and Mike Unes will join East Peoria officials for a groundbreaking at the site of the new fire station at 2001 Centennial Drive Friday at 11 a.m.
