SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – More than three million Illinoisans have obtained a “Real I.D.” — and that’s before the federally-imposed delay of two more years announced Monday.
But, as far as the Illinois Secretary of State is concerned, all it means is if you really need a Real I.D. you have a reprieve.
“People who should consider getting the Real I.D., first and foremost, would be those who use domestic air travel, and do not have a valid U.S. passport,” said Henry Haupt, Illinois Secretary of State spokesperson.
Haupt says if you’re planning on visiting a military base or other secure federal facilities, you need one, too.
“My advice to anyone who wants to apply for a Real I.D. is, before visiting one of our Drivers Service Facilities, to please visit our website…use the Interactive Document Checklist,” said Haupt.
You can’t apply online for a Real I.D. which will become part of your drivers license or state I.D. But, CLICK HERE for the state’s Real I.D. website.
