PEKIN, Ill. – The father of the so-called “Waffle House Shooter” will get some time in prison for giving his son the gun that led to the massacre.
Tazewell County Circuit Court records indicate Jeffrey Reinking, 59, was sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison after being convicted last May of a charged filed in March of 2019 of Delivery of a Firearm to a Mental Patient.
Because of state law, Reinking will likely serve half that sentence, along with time already served in jail.
Prosecutors claimed Reinking knew that his son Travis was undergoing mental health treatment when he gave his son the rifle that ended up being used to kill four people and two others in April of 2018.
Jeffrey Reinking has long claimed he didn’t know about the treatment, and his attorneys are appealing.
Travis Reinking, meanwhile, is serving four life sentences plus 114 years in prison.
