CHICAGO, Ill. – COVID-19 cases and transmission are almost the same this past week, as they were the week prior, which the state considers to be relatively low.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says thirteen Illinois counties are at elevated levels of COVID-19 spread — up just one county from the week before.
None of those are at a “high” level, the state says, for the second straight week. Peoria and Tazewell Counties, however, are at “medium.”
The number of new cases is lower than last week, while elevated levels are higher — 7,879 new cases this week, versus 8,560 last week.
“I am once again pleased to see COVID-19 community levels remain relatively low,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra, in a news release. “As we enter the spring season, I encourage Illinois residents to discuss their risk for serious illness with their medical provider and perform safe public health practices to protect themselves and their loved ones.”
