PEKIN, Ill. – The Pekin Police officer who died unexpectedly earlier this week has been identified.
49-year-old Daniel Graber died suddenly on Wednesday. He was a 23-year veteran of the Pekin Police Department, working as a third shift patrolman.
Chief John Dossey in a statement says Graber’s last working day was Wednesday. He received four letters of commendation in his career. Three of those were for saving lives and the 4th for proactive policing.
Dossey tells 25 News the community has been supportive in the wake of Graber’s passing.
“You lose one of your own, there’s a struggle. We’re a family. The community’s part of that. It’s just been phenomenal, the outreach and to see the people who care and want to be a part of that,” Dossey said.
Visitation for Graber will take place Tuesday, May 23rd, at the Preston Hanley Funeral Homes in Pekin from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 24th at the funeral home, with burial at the Prairie Haven Cemetery.
Dossey is asking people to line the procession to the cemetery. It will pass City Hall on its route from Broadway to Court Street and Court to Veterans Drive.
