EAST PEORIA, Ill. – We will get a break from the drought Saturday night, but maybe not in the way we would like.
25 News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins says showers and thunderstorms will come to the Peoria area, but there are some downsides.
“Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats after 8:00 (Saturday) evening as scattered storms move through the area,” said Collins. “The tornado threat is low, but there could be some locally heavy down pours. The rain won’t be a drought buster but we’ll take what we can get.”
Some forecasts have up to a half inch of rain possible in Peoria Saturday night, but the area is as much as six inches below normal in terms of precipitation.
There are more chances for at least some rain in the forecast Sunday and Monday as well.
The severe weather follows a hot, sunny day on Saturday — one of the hottest of early summer — with highs close to 95 degrees in the area.
