PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria police officer who shot and killed a suspect in 2018 says he did it because he feared for his partner’s life.
A trial is continuing this week involving a lawsuit filed by the family of Luis Cruz against the city and Officer Ryan Isonhart.
Cruz allegedly ran from officers in July of 2018 following a traffic stop near Roosevelt Magnet School.
Isonhart testified about training and the use of deadly force, and he says Cruz cocked and pointed a gun at his partner, leading to the shooting – one that Illinois State Police ruled was justified.
25 News reports Cruz’s sister is suing for unspecified damages.
