PEKIN, Ill. (25 News) – The Pekin City Council could be whole again next month.
Mayor Mary Burress tells 25 News that eleven candidates have applied to fill the position that Becky Cloyd vacated last month, when Cloyd announced her resignation from the council. She says two or three will be interviewed on around January 1st.
“We’re looking for a forward-thinking individual who is ready to move the city forward, that is willing to pull the city together and do what is right,” Burress said.
Burress says council is scheduled to vote on January 8th for Cloyd’s replacement. Until the appointment is made, council is only at six members, which could stall agenda items if there’s a tie vote.
Changes could also come to how Pekin appoints vacancies on the city council, which Burress says she will look into doing next year. She’s also planning to give the city’s first “State of the City” address next year.
