CANTON, Ill. – Another area school district is dealing with another threat made to one of its schools.
The Canton School District says for the second time in about a week, a threat has been discovered to have been made at Ingersoll Middle School.
The threat came in the form of a letter, and Superintendent Tad DeRenzy says in a social media post the student who allegedly wrote the letter has been identified.
DeRenzy says it’s not clear if the two threat incidents are related, and the first threat made last week is still being investigated.
The district says a lot of misinformation has been spread about the threats, and that no weapons have been found, nor have there been students hurt.
The district’s full statement is below.
Canton Union School District #66 is continuing to work with the Canton Police Department to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Last week, we announced a threat discovered at Ingersoll Middle School which we are continuing to investigate. There is a significant amount of rumors and misinformation being shared in the community. To be clear, there have been no weapons found or students injured.
Today, we received information concerning a second threat discovered at Ingersoll Middle School. The student who wrote the letter has been identified and the District and Canton Police Department are proceeding accordingly. The initial threat from last week is still under investigation, and no determination has been made regarding whether or not these two incidents are related.
As we continue our investigations, you will continue to see additional police officers present on school grounds. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated. Please share safety reminders with your child. Students should report to an adult any incident that makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe. If you or your child have any information regarding these threats, please contact Ingersoll Middle School administration at 309-647-6951. At this time, we do not have any information which would suggest that either of these threats are credible, and school will remain in session as planned.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support for Canton Union School District.
Tad DeRenzy
