PEORIA, Ill. — U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos and U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin announced Tuesday $10 million in new federal funding for Greater Peoria Mass Transit.
CityLink General Manager Doug Roelfs said the money will help build a proposed bus maintenance facility in downtown Peoria.
“We got one of the oldest (maintenance facilities) in the state of Illinois. And, so we’ve been working on this project for quite a few years,” Roelfs said.
$10 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program will bring funding for the project up to $20 million. The estimated total cost is $30 million.
“We hope to break ground in the spring, and this will shorten the phases of our project. We hopefully will be able to get it done a lot quicker,” Roelfs said.
The CityLink bus maintenance facility will be located at the Jefferson Street offices and likely be completed in 2-3 years.
