PEORIA, Ill. — Several municipal and educational authorities around the Peoria metro have announced upcoming parking bans and educational changes as an approaching winter storm threatens to bring a foot or more of snow accumulation to parts of Central Illinois.
So far, we’ve received notices from officials with the City of Washington, Pekin Police and the City of East Peoria.
According to the release from Pekin officials, a city wide street parking ban can be declared anytime four or more inches of snowfall is projected.
“When this happens, vehicles are to be cleared from all city streets. Any vehicles that remain on city streets are subject to a ticket, and/or tow.”
The statement goes further to say once the citywide ban is activated, it will remain active until the storm is over and the street department completes all street clearing efforts.
Both the City of Washington and Pekin Police say they will begin enforcing their street parking bans at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
East Peoria officials say the city will enforce its street parking ban beginning at 10 p.m.
