PEORIA, Ill. — City leaders in Peoria won’t allow the sale of the Spirit of Peoria riverboat just yet.
“Cast your ballots please on the deferral. Motion passes unanimously,” said Mayor Rita Ali.
The mayor calling the vote Monday night as council members agreed to wait another two weeks before making a final decision on its option for first right of refusal.
City attorneys suggested council go ahead and let the purported river-boat sale go through, saying they’re not even sure a $1-million offer on it is bonafide.
“We are recommending that the city waive the rest of the due diligence period and the waive right of the first refusal to allow G&G Packet Company to go through with the sale privately,” said City attorney Chrissie Kaputska.
Several council members said they wanted more information from Spirit of Peoria owner Alex Grieves.
Council loses its first right of refusal on the matter on April 30.
