EAST MOLINE, Ill. – Democratic Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos is celebrating the fact she’s been sanctioned by Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
In a release issued Friday, Bustos (D-East Moline) announced she had been included in Russian sanctions against certain top U.S. officials. She says she was one of 398 bipartisan members of the U.S. House sanctioned by Russia. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) was another.
With her tongue planted firmly in her cheek and figuratively thumbing her nose through verse, Bustos said in a statement, “I don’t know how I will ever recover from this devastating blow.”
She says she would seek to “frame” the Russian sanction document on her wall.
Below is Bustos’ official response to Russian President Vladimir Putin:
Hey there Kremlin Gremlin,
This week, I learned I’ve been officially sanctioned by the Russian Foreign Ministry for my support for freedom, democracy and the Ukrainian people.
I don’t know how I will ever recover from this devastating blow.
While these sanctions hold about as much weight as a vote in your sham elections, I am deeply saddened that I will no longer have the opportunity to sunbathe in Siberia or mingle in Moscow.
But seriously, if your Foreign Ministry can send me a copy, I’d love to have it framed on my wall.
XOXO,
Cheri
