PEKIN, Ill. – A woman accused of striking and killing two pedestrians more than a month ago in East Peria has pleaded not guilty.
Tazewell County Circuit Court records indicate Stephanie Melgoza, 23, made the plea during an arraignment hearing Tuesday on eight different charges, including felony counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, and Aggravated Reckless Driving.
Melgoza allegedly struck Andrea Rosewicz, 43, of Avon, Ohio, and Paul Prowant, 55, of Seattle, as the two walked along North Main Street in East Peoria April 10th.
Prosecutors say Melgoza admitted to drinking before the crash, and also allegedly had cannabis in her possession.
Melgoza is scheduled to be back in court July 14th.
