EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria’s police department will soon join most of the rest of the area in having new body cameras.
The East Peoria City Council Tuesday night voted to approve the purchase and installation of 49 body cameras from Arizona-based Axon Enterprise, along with interview room cameras, and 41 in-car video camera systems.
The cost is more than $812,000 that will be paid over five years. Some of that cost is being absorbed by state money State Senator Dave Koehler helped secure.
The new equipment is expected to be in place in 90 days, and upgraded in two and a half years.
The council made the vote with no discussion.
