PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria City Council member now has a new job.
District Four Council Member Andre Allen has been announced as Peoria County’s new Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, as of Monday.
“This is a dream opportunity for myself and my family,” said Allen, in an interview. “You’re always looking to advance in your career, and to be able to have this type of opportunity present itself in your back yard.”
“Andre Allen will be Peoria County’s first Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer,” said Scott Sorrel, Peoria County Administrator, in a news release. “He brings to this position not only his experience in the DEI realm, but an extensive community engagement background. I look forward to him joining Peoria County’s senior management team.”
Allen most previously worked in a similar position for UnityPoint Health’s Methodist College.
Allen is expected to remain on the Peoria City Council, but he says city and council legal are making sure there is no potential conflict of interest.
Allen’s salary for the position was not revealed.
