CHICAGO, Ill. – Relief is on the way for Fulton County residents affected by damage from tornadoes on the evening of April 4th.
The U.S. Small Business Administration announced on Tuesday that a disaster declaration has been approved for the county. It also covers Crawford County in southeastern Illinois, after tornadoes damaged that area on March 31st.
The declaration will allow for residents, condo homeowners, and businesses apply for low-interest loans to cover damage that insurance did not.
“We are grateful to Gov. Pritzker and the IEMA-OHS for their continued efforts in assisting the Fulton County residents who are still recovering from the severe weather,” said Fulton County Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA) Director Chris Helle. “The scope and scale of this event sadly did not allot for FEMA aid, so we had to look at any and all options that Gov Pritzker and IEMA-OHS were able to help us achieve.”
In Fulton County, an EF-3 tornado went through the towns of Lewistown, Bryant, and Canton. Table Grove was also affected by a tornado. The Fulton County ESDA says 152 houses with impacted by storm damage, with 21 of those homes destroyed.
Residents can fill out applications for the loans for two weeks, starting on May 10th, at the St. David Village Hall. It will be open from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on weekdays and 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturdays.
