PEORIA, Ill. – Construction is ongoing on a new apartment that will help address homelessness in a population you might not think has much of a problem with it, but it does.
Phoenix Community Development Services Thursday held a “topping off” ceremony for the Madison 3 Apartments. They’ll be apartments for the 18 to 24 homeless population.
“This is definitely a population that has a large unmet need,” said Christine Kahl, CEO, Phoenix Community Development Services, to 25 News.
$6.5 million will be spent on the apartments, slated to be complete next March. It may not be much, but Kahl says it’s something.
“Sixteen units are only going to scratch the surface,” said Kahl. “But, right now, there are no units dedicated to this population in our community.”
25 News reports this development is a combination of affordable housing and specialized supportive services for that homeless population.
