UPDATED 5:39 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man learned his fate on Thursday for a murder in 2018, hours after he was charged for a murder in 2019.
Lionell Harris, 31, received an 80-year sentence to the Illinois Department of Corrections after being convicted in October in the shooting death of Daryl Keller, 36, near Sand and the former Third Street in Peoria in November 2018.
Harris must serve the entire sentence.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Harris argued with Judge John Vespa throughout the hearing, eventually asking to leave at one point and refused to participate in the hearing.
Prosecutors argued that Keller was “left to die on the side of the road” after being shot. They also accused Harris had consistently broken jail rules while awaiting trial, along with a lengthy criminal history. Harris was already in prison on weapons charges in a separate case.
Earlier in the day, Harris learned he was charged in the February 2019 shooting death of Michael Shipley, 30, at a home on West Thrush.

PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man just convicted in a murder from 2018 has now been arrested for a murder the following year.
Peoria Police say Lionell Harris, 31, already in jail, has been arrested on new charges of First-Degree Murder and Home Invasion.
Harris is accused of shooting Michael Shipley, 30, in a home on West Thrush in February of 2019. Shipley was pronounced dead at the scene.
Harris was convicted in October of shooting and killing Daryl Keller, 36, near Sand and the former Third Street in Peoria in November 2018.
At the time of his arrest in that case, Harris was already serving prison time on a weapons case previous to all that.
He was supposed to be sentenced two weeks ago, but that order was vacated. No word on when an appearance will be held in the new case, but a status hearing was scheduled for Thursday afternoon in the 2018 case.
