Everything changes.
For me, change has come in a big way as my wife and I have made the decision to move from central Illinois.
As I have said many times, and will continue to do so, Peoria has been so very good to me.
I came from New Jersey to spend 4 years at Bradley University and figure out what I was going to do with my life. Turns out, the radio bug bit and I have been fortunate enough to follow that bug for 40 years.
That wasn’t the plan…at least to stay here.
I was an intern my junior and senior year at Rock 106 which led to a fulltime position in 1984. At that time I was just a kid meeting the new morning guy as he threw up in the sales managers garbage can after being overserved at a station event the night before. (yes that’s you Jim Tofte)
I then realized I really chose a niche career.
I thought the plan was to be there a year, get “good” and move to a bigger market. The bigger market never came.
Turns out I didn’t need it to. Central Illinois, my wife and my family was more than I could ask for.
Needless to say there’s not enough room here to recap the last 40 years of music, friends, shows, triumphs and failures. Just know all of it, and you, are super important and meaningful to me.
Someone just asked me what stands out over all that time, and honestly, it’s not any particular promotion, concert or event. It’s simply the random person or longtime listener who sees you or hears your voice and says “Hey, I know you – you’re on the radio”…and if you’re lucky enough, they will tell you what you or that station means/meant to them in their life.
I love that.
I hope to see you on the radio again soon.
